with Synergistic Factors for Maximum Bioavailability

300 Capsules/100 Day Supply

Cholesterol is made by the body and is an essential component of blood lipids.  It is manufactured by the liver and is a precursor of steroidal hormones.  Cholesterol is converted to bile acids that aid in food metabolism. It is a white, soft, waxy material that is present in the nervous system, skin, muscle, liver, intestines, heart, and in all parts of the body.  LDL is a low-density lipoprotein and VLDL is a very-low-density lipoprotein.  Too much of these when oxidized may collect inside the artery walls (plaque) and restrict blood flow, reduce blood vessel flexibility and may lead to heart disease.  HDL (high-density lipoprotein) helps move LDL cholesterol out of the system.  Antioxidants such as lycopene and other carotenoids protect LDL from oxidation; especially when Vitamin C is present.

Many factors cause levels of cholesterol to be higher than they should be.  While many attribute this condition to diet and lack of exercise, these are just two contributory factors.  Other factors include metabolic malfunction, stress, and too many acid toxins in the body.  As with most degenerative disease, creating a pH in the body that is more alkaline will reduce the cause of the problem.  At NEWtritional Healthcare we are keenly aware of this fact, so our products are formulated to be more alkaline.  We also carry products to change the pH of your system.

Once we have gotten to the point where cholesterol levels are a problem, changing pH is not enough.  So we have developed Plaqterol, a dietary supplement made to support the body in lowering cholesterol levels, changing the balance of LDL/HDL, reducing triglycerides, preventing the deposition of dietary cholesterol on arterial walls, and relieving the symptoms of atherosclerosis.  High-density lipoprotein (HDL) helps move LDL cholesterol out of the system, so we all want to improve the ratio of these lipoproteins.  While elevated levels of cholesterol are not the only major risk factor in heart disease, it is associated with a high risk of heart disease.  Additionally, atherosclerosis may lead to cardiac conditions and supporting our body in reducing the plaque in the arterial walls is important.

For people with high cholesterol, heart disease or atherosclerosis it is commonly advised that they reduce consumption of saturated fats, red meats, shellfish, dairy (not labeled "fat free"), sugar, coffee, sodas, and foods processed with saturated fats and consider eating fish, legumes, grains, vegetables, and fruits.  Foods high in soluble fiber are commonly recommended.  Pectin in fruit is an example of soluble fiber.  Oat bran is a rich source of soluble fiber and it also contains beta-glucan.  Olive oil is a part of the "Mediterranean" diet as is peas, vegetables, fruit, fish and cereals.  Research has shown that the risk of dying from heart disease was greatly reduced for those on this diet.  Recommendations also include eating smaller meals rather than three big meals, exercise, consider a weight loss program, reduce stress and quit smoking.  Any person with heart disease or other diagnosed conditions should consult with their health care practitioner before initiating an exercise program, a diet, or supplements.

Many of the ingredients selected for this product have been used for centuries in Asia and many have been tested.  The proprietary blend of whole food, herbs, herbal and whole food extracts, and essential fatty acids is broad and is supported by the vitamins, minerals, lipotropic factors and amino acids to synergistically provide support in the most bioavailable form.  Lipotropics (Choline, Inositol, Methionine and Betaine) aid the body in fat metabolism through the liver, digesting proteins, detoxifying waste, and converting fat into energy.  The lipotropic support factors aid in sugar metabolism; fat burning processes; and protein, carbohydrate and fat metabolism, hormone and cholesterol synthesis.  In addition to acting as a lipotropic, Methionine is a sulfur donating amino acid that builds protein, aids in muscle building and energy formation.  We have listed the ingredients and their descriptions below.  In order to evaluate change in cholesterol levels, consult with your healthcare practitioner.

Vitamin B Complex:  A complex of B vitamins may offer some protection against heart disease and lower homocysteine levels.  Additional, when combined with Betaine Hcl, as we have done here, homocysteine levels will definitely be reduced.  Since levels of homocysteine are higher in those with atherosclerosis, lowering this level may be useful in reducing or reversing atherosclerosis.  In trials, attempts to lower homocysteine by diet without the use of supplements have proven unsuccessful.

Vitamin B1:  Thiamine converts carbohydrates into energy aids in protein & fat metabolization, energy production, digestion, nerve function & maintains muscle tone.

Vitamin B2 - Riboflavin: Riboflavin is required to complete several reactions in the energy cycle.  Glutathione reductase is a riboflavin-dependent enzyme that converts oxidized glutathione (GSSG) back to reduced glutathione (GSH), and is then able to perform its antioxidant functions via glutathione peroxidase.  Without sufficient riboflavin this conversion does not occur.  It is important for nerve & eye function.

Vitamin B3:  This vitamin is available as niacin or niacinamide.  We chose niacin in this formulation to help reduce blood cholesterol.  Niacin opens up the superficial blood vessels thereby improving blood circulation & aids in utilization of GABA.  Necessary for carbohydrate & protein metabolism, fat & hormone synthesis, digestion, & nervous system, it also improves insulin production by preventing damage to pancreas in Type I diabetes.  Prevents oxidative damage to pancreas from activated immune cells.

Vitamin B5:  This vitamin aids in metabolism of protein, fat & carbohydrates.  Promotes healthy skin & digestion & is a precursor to neurotransmitters.  Pantethine may aid in reducing the amount of cholesterol made in the body.  In several trials serum cholesterol levels were reduced and HDL levels were increased.  This vitamin is required for the synthesis of both cholesterol and hormones.

Vitamin B6:  Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is involved in the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates and lipids, including essential fatty acids. This vitamin is especially important in dependent enzymes that are involved in amino metabolism.  This vitamin is a component of lipotropic activity and aids in the use of choline and methionine in the liver.  Pyridoxine converts DOPA into dopamine, a critical neurotransmitter.  Maximizes the conversion to noradrenaline in the brain metabolism and the synthesis of carotine.  Most importantly in this formulation, it is essential for hormone modulation and as a key factor for homocysteine reduction.

Vitamin B12:  This vitamin is a complex crystalline compound that functions in all cells, but especially in those of the gastrointestinal tract, the nervous system, and the bone marrow. It is known to aid in the development of red blood cells in higher animals.  It is essential for the functioning of all body cells, nerve & brain cells, & fat/protein synthesis.  A deficiency or subtle insufficiency (not necessarily reflected by anemia) is now known to result in memory loss, personality and mood changes and fatigue.

Folic Acid:  Folic Acid aids in the synthesis of collagen & nucleic acid, is essential for red blood cell formation & amino acid metabolization.  When combined with B6 and B12, there is a reduction in homocysteine levels.  The body can then convert homocysteine to methionine.

Biotin:  Biotin is an essential cofactor for enzymes.  It aids in the synthesis of hormones & cholesterol, promotes healthy growth, skin, hair, nerves, bone marrow, & oil glands, aids in metabolism of fats, proteins & carbohydrates, improves glucose tolerance in Type II diabetes & prevents damage to nerves resulting from deficiency.

Choline:  Choline is a cofactor of the B vitamins.  It exists in combination with phospholipids that make up part of the brain & spinal cord tissue and the compounds are called lecithins. Choline is a lipotropic that is essential for fat transport, growth, & for carbohydrate and protein metabolism.   It aids in emulsifying cholesterol so that it doesn't settle on arterial walls. It works well with inositol to utilize fats & cholesterol, & it also works well with methionine in detoxifying amines that are by-products of protein metabolism.  Choline is necessary for the conversion of homocysteine to methionine.

Inositol:  Inositol, a simple carbohydrate found in the brain & central nervous cells, metabolizes fats & cholesterol & aids in transporting fat in the blood system. It is required for proper formation of cell membranes, aids in the redistribution of body fat, the lowering of cholesterol levels, is implicated in improving the transmission of neural signals in diabetics, is a member of the B-Complex group & is a lipotropic agent.

Vitamin C Complex:  Vitamin C when used in combination with Bioflavonoids and Calcium makes the ingredients more bioavailable and act synergistically.

Vitamin C:  Vitamin C helps iron absorption, aids in collagen synthesis & is a strong antioxidant (preventing free radical damage).  It is linked with reduced risk of arthritis, asthma, cancer, cataracts, cognitive impairment, macular degeneration, impaired immune system & coronary disease.  High levels of this vitamin are found in the liver where much of the body's metabolic function occurs.  Vitamin C may aid in the reversal of symptoms caused by raised homocysteine levels.  It also protects LDL from oxidative damage and aids in preventing heart disease.

Bioflavonoids:  Flavonoids aid in the absorption of Vitamin C and are linked with the reduced risk of coronary disease & inhibition of cancer-cell growth.  This formulation includes Bioflavonoids from Ginseng, Ginger, Grapefruit Seed, Capsicum, Lycopene and Triphala.  These Bioflavonoids contain a broad spectrum of polyphenols, including Quercetin.   This broad spectrum offers a wide range of anti-microbial activity.  This formulation promotes the reduction of plaque in the arteries.  When the plaque begins to leave the body, it circulates through the liver and bloodstream.  The plaque is an acid toxin and the anti-microbial activity provided by these Bioflavonoids will aid in keeping the system clear of negative microbial activity.

Calcium:  Calcium is required for strong bones and teeth. Calcium works with factors for blood clotting, is needed for the release of neurotransmitters, muscular contractions & includes blood vessels related to hypertension.   Required for absorption of Vitamin B12.  It is linked with reduced risk of osteoporosis & possibly hypertension.  Trials have shown that triglyceride levels may be reduced with calcium supplementation.  This formulation contains a variety of forms of Calcium for absorption and varied activity in the body.

Magnesium:  Magnesium is needed for the health of bones, regulation of body temperature & energy, the reactions of ATP, and 300 enzymes & for nerve & muscle function.  It is linked with reduced risk of abnormal heart rhythms, coronary disease, heart failure, diabetes and in combination with calcium and magnesium has been shown to work to prevent hypertension & osteoporosis.  Magnesium is essential for calcium utilization. Calcium stimulates the muscles to contract & magnesium allows them to relax. As magnesium disappears from the muscles, calcium rushes in & the muscles tend to become tense or cramped.  Preliminary trials have shown that cholesterol is reduced with magnesium supplementation.  A deficiency of magnesium has been associated with low levels of HDL.

Copper:  Copper promotes iron, cholesterol & lipid metabolism, bone growth, skin elastin, collagen & melanin pigmentation, synthesis of connective tissue, maintenance of the heart muscle, immune & central nervous system function.

Animals that are deficient in copper may often exhibit high levels of serum cholesterol and triglycerides, high levels of glucose, and cardiac abnormalities.

Manganese:  Manganese is an important antioxidant nutrient, as it functions as part of SOD.  Aids in synthesis of carbohydrates, fat, cholesterol & enzymes.  Promotes reproductive organ health & bone & connective tissue formation.

Chromium:  Chromium is needed for glucose to enter cells because it helps insulin to function by removing sugar from the blood.  Chromium, working in combination with inositol, lowers the level of LDL cholesterol & increases HDL. It promotes healthier blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Chromium is essential for protein & lipid metabolism.

L-Methionine: L-Methionine shows antioxidant activity, as well as synergism with other antioxidants in relation to the autoxidation of lipids.  As a lipotropic amino acid, it aids in reduction of fat & lowering of cholesterol.  It detoxifies amines that are by-products of protein metabolism. Methionine acts as a catalyst for choline & inositol, speeding up their function. It also lowers histamine levels in the blood that can cause the brain to relay wrong messages, aids in removing toxic waste from the liver, promotes regeneration of kidney & liver tissue, affects hair follicle health & may be an antistress factor.

L-Taurine:  L-Taurine is a component of bile and is required for the metabolism of fat.  This amino acid serves many function including: regulating cell growth and stabilizing cell membranes; aids in the regulation of ions in the cell and aiding in the clearing of free radical waste required for transportation of magnesium & potassium into the cellular structure, the normal functioning of the heart, gallbladder, eyes, and vascular system.  In the brain, taurine acts as a neurotransmitter that inhibits anxiety & aids in stabilizing cell membranes that are important in controlling epileptic seizure.

Essential Fatty Acids:  The body cannot synthesize EFA's, but the body requires them for normal, healthy functioning.  While many fats are harmful, EFA's are not and they should not be cut from our diet.  EFA's are Omega-3 (Linoleic) and Omega-6 (Linolenic) fatty acids.  The primary function of EFA's is energy production.  These fatty acids are of the membranes of each cell and are required for healthy functioning of all cells.  The membrane around the cell controls the flow of fluid and body chemicals in and out of the cell structure.  If the cell membrane becomes stiff it cannot function appropriately and our health may be severely compromised.  The EFA's convert food into energy, affect brain function, neurotransmission, oxidation, cardiac function, electron transport, healing processes, muscle relaxation, blood flow, skin health, and aid in preventing damage from other types of fats.  Our formulation contains 3 EFA's:  borage, DHA, and EPA.

Borage:  This is a plant based, water-soluble form of Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's).  It contains Omega 6 and 3 Fatty Acids including GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid), Linoleic Acid, Oleic Acid, Palmitic Acid and Stearic Acid.  This is the most potent form of GLA found in nature.  EFA's cannot be made by the body and must be consumed.  They are found in very high concentrations in the brain because they are needed for normal brain function and development.  These are also essential for immune system functioning & cell metabolism.  They form prostaglandins that promote relaxation of muscles, enhance blood flow by promoting relaxation of the blood vessels.  GLA is frequently deficient in people with atherosclerosis.  GLA has been used as a supplement for those with heart disease; stroke; hardening of the arteries; high cholesterol; MS; high blood pressure; PMS; brain, breast and prostrate cancer; malignant tumors; diabetes; pain and inflammation. Linoleic Acid is used in the synthesis of other essential fatty acids.

DHA/ EPA:  DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (Eicosopentaenoic Acid) are Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids.  They aid in reducing blood triglycerides, serum cholesterol, blood pressure, oxidative stress, pain and inflammation from arthritis; and supports heart and muscle contractions, cell membrane structure, vision, brain function, neurotransmission and healthy skin and hair.  Omega 3 fatty acids aid in dispersing saturated fats and taking them is associated with changes in risk factors for atherosclerosis and heart disease.

Betaine HCL:  Betaine is a great source of methyl groups. Methyl groups can deactivate harmful substances in the body and convert them to helpful substances. This ingredient is also referred to as TMG (trimethylglycine).  It protects DNA and acts as a lipotropic, aiding the body in moving fat from the liver.  It lowers pH in the stomach without compromising pH in the body, to aid in increased digestion levels.

Capsicum: Capsicum works as a catalyst to enhance the performance of other herbs.  It has been used to relieve inflammation, stimulate energy, for digestive complaints (other than ulcers), and is rich in vitamins C and A.

Co-Enzyme Q-10:  CoQ-10 (Ubiquinone) is a fat-soluble molecule that has been studied to support patients with diseases such as: cardiovascular, breast cancer, hypertension, periodontal, and many others.  It is involved in the electron transport function allowing the electron to be converted to ATP.  CoQ-10 creates energy at cellular levels, is a component of mitochondria (our energy factory), boosts immunity, aids in controlling weight, protects against free radical damage, boosts immune function, and has been used in Asia in cancer treatment.  Without CoQ-10 the mitochondria cannot convert energy.  Studies have shown that in patients with cardiac disease the CoQ-10 levels were about 25% lower than in patients without cardiac disease.  Supplementation has been found to be therapeutic in about 70% of patients.

Fenugreek Seed:  Fenugreek seed contains steroidal Saponins and clinical trials have shown that it inhibits cholesterol production and absorption and lowers LDL and triglycerides.

Ginger:  Ginger reduces the excessive stickiness of platelets, reducing atherosclerosis.  Aids in fighting colds, colitis, digestive disorders, flu & gas; it helps increase the secretion of saliva, is excellent for the circulatory system & helps increase stamina.

Grapefruit Seed Extract:  This Bioflavonoid acts as a strong antioxidant, contains NAC (that metabolizes into glutathione), has antiviral and antibacterial properties, and has proven effective against parasites, yeast and mold.  When detoxifying it is important to maintain a healthy state so that pathogens cannot invade.

Green Tea Extract:  Green Tea is a Bioflavonoid, high in Quercetin and polyphenols (catechins) that are strong antioxidants.  Quercetin is considered to be a more potent antioxidant than Vitamin E by some.  Studies have shown it may be effective in the prevention of heart disease.  Oxidation of LDL is considered to be important in the acceleration of atherosclerosis.  Green Tea protects against oxidation.  In Asian countries about three cups per day of the tea is consumed.  There is a lower incidence of negative cholesterol profiles in these countries.  This Bioflavonoid has been shown in preliminary studies to lower total cholesterol levels and improve the profile.

Guggul:   Studies have shown that Gugulipid lowers serum cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL while raising HDL levels.  Studies indicate that it promotes the increase of bile and decrease of cholesterol synthesis.  It may also stimulate the thyroid gland.  In India this herb has been approved for treatment of hyperlipidemia (elevated cholesterol) and has been used as a primary treatment in Ayurvedic practice to prevent atherosclerosis. In addition to the activities listed above, this herb has been shown to reduce the stickiness of platelets.

Lycopene:  Lycopene is a carotenoid that is found in tomatoes, red peppers, watermelon, pink grapefruit, guava and other vegetables and fruits.  It has been studied extensively for its positive effect as a strong antioxidant.  It has also been studied for its role in retarding oxidation caused by LDL cholesterol.  Studies indicate that 60 mg per day of Lycopene for 3 months have resulted in a reduction of LDL an average of 14%.  In people with atherosclerosis the levels of Lycopene tend to be low.  It is most widely known today as a supplement for protection from breast and prostate cancer and is being studied for use in patients with lung, pancreas, colon, esophagus, oral cavity, cervix and stomach cancer.  Carotenoids also play a role in cardiac health, have anti-inflammatory properties, may protect against radioactivity, and are considered by many the most effective quencher of singlet oxygen free radicals discovered to date.  Studies have shown that Lycopene may help prevent Alzheimer's.

Milk Thistle: Milk Thistle is an herb that contains Flavonoids, including silymarin.  Silymarin, an antioxidant, enhances liver function, reducing the presence of free radicals in the liver and aids the liver by binding to the outside of liver cells, inhibiting the entrance of toxins and heavy metals which could otherwise interfere with normal liver function.  Most liver toxins produce damage by free radical mechanisms.  Silymarin stimulates protein synthesis to accelerate the regeneration and production of liver cells, having a restorative effect on the liver.  The liver detoxifies the body from toxins and poisons, including the natural toxins in food, and synthetic chemical substances in food, water, and air. It is involved in the regulation of blood fat and sugar levels, and every aspect of metabolism. It is considered the third most important organ, after the brain and the heart.  Additional benefits of milk thistle includes: protection of blood cells, inhibition of oxidation of the cell membrane in red blood cells, acting as an anti-inflammatory, beneficial effects of T-lymphocytes, immunity enhancement, encouragement of bile secretion and reduction of the manufacture of cholesterol in the liver, protection against hepatitis and cirrhosis.  Silybin has also been tested in animals for its ability to protect the kidney from damage due to drugs such as the chemotherapeutic agent cisplatin.

Panax Ginseng: Panax Ginseng contains Bioflavonoids and is rich in phytonutrients.  It has been used in Asia for thousands of years as an overall curative and for longevity.  Panax Ginseng is well known as a demulcent.  It is helpful for coughs, colds and chest congestion.  Ginseng promotes the reduction of symptoms of feverish and inflammatory illness, can help relieve nausea and vomiting.  It is also used in Asia to reduce cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL, improve circulation, increase physical and mental endurance, increase metabolic function, lower blood pressure, protect the nervous system, combat fatigue, increase energy, normalize body functions, increase sexual desire, strengthen the endocrine glands; stimulate the activity of RNA & DNA in your cells, and prevent cancer.  Constituents of ginseng include the panaxans, which helps mediate blood sugar (increases when low, decreases when high), and the polysaccharides that support immune function.

Policosinol: This natural ingredient that has shown itself in tests to be as effective as statin treatments and it does not have the same side effects as the statins.  Octacosanol, a long chain fatty alcohol is found in the leaves and fruit of the sugar cane as well as in other vegetation.

Red Yeast Rice: This rice is fermented in a traditional manner and in China has been used for over a millennium for improving circulation, alleviating diarrhea and indigestion and most recently for lowering blood lipids, cholesterol & triglycerides.
